Kemper County Courthouse Park
Sam and Alice Creekmore were longtime residents of DeKalb, MS. Jimmy Prince, their grandson, along with members of his family, has decided to construct a park to honor them. The park, which will serve both the courthouse and a senior center adjacent to the park, will have a fountain as its centerpiece. The fountain is a sculpture of a young boy, maybe three or four, holding a large-mouth bass. Water will be spurting from the fish's mouth, as the grinning boy looks on. For Tracy H. Sugg, mother of three boys and one girl, this sculpture was especially pleasing to work on. Always a stickler for accuracy, Tracy borrowed a trophy fish from her father-in-law to make sure the details on the fish were accurate.
Casting was completed May 23, 2006. Applying a patina involves heating the sculpture and brushing or spraying the appropriate chemical onto the surface. The chemical reaction on the surface of the bronze creates different colorations and patterns depending on the chemical used. This chemical used for this patina produces a chemical bond over the surface of the bronze that is stable for outdoor use, and the sculpture is subsequently hot-waxed for further protection from the elements.
