photo prior to firing Stoneware clay This inspiration for this neoclassical figure was the story of Princess Amelia for whom Amelia Island is named. One of her works of charity was the founding of orphanages. Since the figure is an allegory of the island, a juvenile blue heron is in her arms to symbolize Amelia's work for the orphans.
